On Wednesday Siddaramaiah thanked Congress President Sonia Gandhi for showing ‘faith’ in him and choose him as Leader of Opposition in the state assembly and for having given him the opportunity to work as a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
“The party applaud the contribution of Shri Siddaramaiah as member of the Congress Working Committee,” Statement of the party further released.
The appointments came a day before the winter session of the state legislature from Thursday.
Many Senior party leaders together with G Parameshwara, HK Patil were said to intermit to it and eyeing for the post.
Senior Congress leader Madhusudan Mistry was recently sent by the high command of the party to ask the opinion of local leaders on the post of Leader of the Opposition (LOP).
On Sunday, Mistry had spent his whole day on holding one-on-one consultations on who will lead the party in the assembly, during this, as a show of majority a large group of party leaders had met him, to make case for Siddaramaiah as LOP.
A few old guards of the party converge Mistry and pushed another candidate other than Siddaramaiah, not willing all the key posts to rest with the former Chief Minister.
A particular section in the party, especially old guards is not happy with Siddaramaiah to take control of the party.
Recently a meeting of the party held, senior leaders like K H Muniyappa and B K Hariprasad had hit out at Siddaramaiah and KPCC chief Dinesh Gundu Rao, see close to him, for their “unilateral style of functioning” and over accountability not being fixed for the defeat of Congress party in elections.
Siddaramaiah was born on August 12, 1948, and is an Indian politician and was appointed as the 22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2013 to 2018. He served as a member of the Congress Working Committee. At present, he is a leader of the Indian National Congress party. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.
Siddaramaiah was elected as Chief Minister of Karnataka after Congress adopted secret balloting to select the new chief minister. He led the Indian National Congress to victory by getting an absolute majority of 122/224 seats in the Legislative Assembly election of 2013.
